Ok guys, out bush the otherday and was working my 96 disco 3.9 petrol pretty hard, I looked at the temp gauge and she started to get hot, like just over half. I pulled over and she started to steam and lost about 0.5 of a litre out of the overflow tank. The question I want to know is... Should the Thermo fans for the air con come on even if the air con isnt on? or does the clutch fan do all the work?

I never have problems just cruizing around town and on normal country roads, the temp always stays at half... I have had a full radiator service and a top overhaul in the last 6 months....

One other question! I have a waterfall sound behind my dash which I think may be a sign of a blocked heater core? would I correct and can this affect the temperture?

I'm not losing any coolant from hoses or using any water? Clutch fan seems to be working fine! I;m thinking the heater core maybe the problem? or if not maybe faulty thermostat/water pump, would it be a correct assumption to take it to a lr mechanic to sort it out? otherwise I was thinking of changing temp sender and coolant temp sensor and thermostat! Seemed it only overheated whilst working hard!

The sound you are getting is normally cause by either low Antifreeze level or the heater core may be clogged.

The A/C fans will only kick on the the T-Stat says you have become hot. Unless the fans either a) don't work, or b) the relay isn't working correctly.
