Hi all. Just purchased a 2001 Disco with only one key. Do I have to get a key with the fob? Can I use a generic key from Walmart? Don't care if I have the fob... would just like to have a spare key.

Thanks!
Brent

The answer is yes and no...

Yes you can just use a key blank IIRC (someone may correct me on this)

No you will have no chance in the world of finding you key at walmart.

Cool... thanks. Can I order a blank somewhere? Would a place like Auto Zone or Ace have it?

Not sure if it's like a 95 discovery 1 but I did order and bought a blank from a lock smith shop quite a few years back. I use it every day as it isn't as bulky because it doesn't have the plastic on it. He had to order it as nothing in his shop was the right size.

Many key shops can match for a key blank. But you need to call the dealer and get a key code number so you can actually make the exact key you need, not a copy of a warm out key from your FOB which will cause wear on your tumblers.

Thanks everyone for your replies and help. Please forgive my ignorance... I have some follow up questions. I bought two key blanks off eBay... no fob, just the key. My original is bent slightly. I thought the duplicate had to be make from an existing key (unless of course it is make by the dealer). Can any place make a key from the key code? And would the Land Rover dealership just give me the key code?

Obviously you would have to prove you own the Vehicle, but the dealer should give you the code.

Of course we all know how it works when you expect things to go well.
