Thought the front end structure was an aluminum casting

Trimming a bit for a winch install. Didn't think the cast part supporting the front was magnesium.....now I know.
Was like a big flash bang

Hadn't expected such a large chunk of magnesium. Assumed it was just plain old aluminum. Is it common knowledge that bit is magnesium?

What kind of winch install you doing that requires trimming like that?

The RTE bumper and winch were a tight fit, so I added some wiggle room. Allows me to pull/install winch without dropping bumper. Or access the winch's rear wiring and not be right up against the body.
Used a tactical 4*4 aluminum washer bottle, so it made it a tight fit to get bumper off and on.

No I wouldn't expect magnesium, but it is light and strong and used in the industry. Some C5 corvettes had magnesium rims and there are engine cradles out there made of it. As an aside, I've watched a bumper install vid where they cut that whole cross-member out on each far side and removed it completely. Then the bumper fits in there somehow. Its probably a 300-400+ pound bumper with bull bar and winch mount.
