Just picked up this thread from Landroverforums.com - thanks to StarkGreen for posting over there:

So the settlement is a pro-rated warranty, and it's only good for the 2012-2014 model years. Without reading the Complaint, this part stood out to me:

The lawsuit also says the timing chains shouldn't have to be replaced for at least 150,000, if that. The class action says the owner's manuals don't even mention any maintenance schedules for the timing chains because they should last the useful life of the vehicle.

150,000 miles? That's closer to timing belt territory than it is timing chain. Regardless, it seems like the 2010 and 2011 models are getting the shaft because they were deemed too old to have much of a chance in the suit.

Sounds to me like the earlier '10 and '11 models did get the shaft. The manufacturer decided to extend the extended warranty and split a percentage of the cost if your vehicle fits into approximately a 10k/year mileage range. I'm assuming that the '10 and '11 is well beyond their extended warranty and gets the shaft.

It was how the law firm drew up the complaint. They must have thought that including the 2010 and 11 model years would have diluted the plaintiff pool too much and decreased the overall settlement value.

so are 2013s are prone to the issue? i thought in previous threads we concluded 2013 to last model year LR4 were not susceptible because they received updated parts from the factory?

Purported land rover mechanics who post on the Land Rover facebook group claim it can still happen even with the updated guides. It must be less common, though, just by the design alone.

I stand behind my contention that the main culprit is the stupid oil change intervals Land Rover recommends. If you ever run the carfax on an off-lease Land Rover, you can see that people take the 15k oil change interval and stretch it out an additional thousand or more miles.

I have a '13 that is a dealer serviced vehicle since we bought it. Kept to the standard 15K recommended changes, and had a heated garage for its life when we bought it new.
It runs fabulous and has 119k miles today.

15k? Yikes. It could also come down to the nature of the miles. 15k miles of heavy city stop and go vs highway.
