I am using the Atlantic British kit and have some notes (not done yet and so let's not get too far ahead...still need to get the engine running again!) but am using the whole kit; it is actually missing a couple items.

But... you have to pull the engine in order to access the AUX chain (the third chain at the bottom)...which is not entirely obvious up-front (I thought I could do it in the truck not realizing that you have to get underneath for those parts...I won't say anything about an engine design which needs one to pull the engine to drop the oil pan). That said, you have to drop the oil pan in order to do the AUX chain - meaning you will need the engine out (mine is a body-on, engine out but would be easier body off for those with a lift).

So if you are not doing the engine out and pan off, then you won't need those parts for the timing chain job. Otherwise, I think the AB Team does a good job putting together all these bits and pieces (there are a lot) and so far, so good. There is a huge amount of parts for the whole job...and now I even ran into something I didn't know about (oil restrictor plastic thing) which is causing a delay since I need to order that.

Hope that helps -

Hello everyone, lr4 2015 at 112k,sv6, little noisy when I start it once a week , if I start again same day, no rattle / noise. From oil cap I can press chain down may be 0.25 cm with metal rod. Can’t press it down at all with finger.

Does this mean that if you r not using lr4 daily, “oil drains out” of tensioner and some 20-30 second noises can be heard when u start engine after a week or so?.

Again- if I use suv daily, I hear no rough noises. Lr4 is my winter suv.
No codes.
Preemptive timing chain work reccomended from collective experience here?
Thank you.

It's more like the timing chain tensioner is weak, causing the rattle.
Where the tensioner pushes on the chain guide, the aluminum wears out and causes the tensioner to extend further.

@Rover Range - Am I correct in thinking though that the 2015 sv6 would have the updated chain guide (with the steel inserts) that avoids the aluminum wearing issue? I think I've read historically that the V6 can still have issues with the timing system but that it is less likely?

@ClevelandLR4 - keep in mind that these engines are also known to be noisy... Look on YouTube, when the timing chain guides are worn you'll really know about it.

You are correct. The '15 would have the updated guides.
There could be issues with chain stretch and VVT drive train.

Studying the procedure

Has anyone taken off 12.9 bolt just by impact gun?. ( worried about injector from hail)
Does upper timing covers can come off without removing valve cover?( musing about that zip tie method on YouTube)

The Harbor Freight Thunder cat impact will work. Just need a short socket.

Too risky to use the zip tie method.
