So I bought myself a Disco at an auction not to long ago. I love the car; however the catch was that It has something wrong with the drive train. I am trying to isolate whether it is the tranny or the T case.
The truck runs and drive, but it sounds like grinding metal or a burnt out bearing when applying ******. Fisrt thing i did was held the brake and gave it gas. The RPMs bogg donw at about 1600. Then I tried putting the T case in neutral and the transmission in drive while giving it a bit of throttle. You could still hear a little bit of rattling in the drive train. Now here is the big kicker. Some times it is easy to switch from hi to low on the T Case. Recently if you get the truck rolling up to about 40 MPH (at least) and then let off of the throttle, the T case will pop in to neutral. Now I cant get the transfer case to switch at all. Either way, my new Disco that I was all excited to buy is not drivable and still makes the damn grinding noise. The only positive side of this is that the transmission seems to shift fine through all gears. Has anyone come across this problem? Suggestions anyone?
