Upgrade or keep 2010 V8?

I'm in the same boat. Mine is a 2011 LR4 Lux non-HD with a little over 140k miles. I've been looking, and I mean looking hard, for a backup in the event the LR4 goes down. It's sort of a hobby of mine to browse through the online auto postings on a regular basis. I've actually test drove a few prospects. The more I search, the more I appreciate my paid off LR4. I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on anything else.

At some point, something big is going to go and then I will be faced with a decision. I'd like to dump a bunch of money into it and fix everything major that could go wrong. My gut tells me that's a sweet sentiment, but foolish. Probably my best move is to enjoy the ride until it plays out. That way, I can keep the fond memories of my Land Rover ownership without the resentment of getting burnt by getting sucked in too deep towards the end.

Hey guys, appreciate all your thoughtful comments. Talked it over with my mechanic. He was somewhat down on the sc V6 re. Coolant leaks (V8 not immune to that too) and refinement. He told me it's a V8 which they blanked two cylinders off? Weird!

A 2017 RR sport turbo diesel caught my eye, but he was pretty negative about those too (I trust his judgement).

I am thinking just keep it now. It did have a new engine under warranty from LR with the PO at 70k km, which was good for me. Love the air suspension but waiting for it to detonate (compressor replaced in 2023).

This has been my predicament with my 250miles ‘07 LR3. There are simply no decent replacements for performance, comfort, volume etc….. except for the LR4.
There are two LR3s, one LR4 and several Range Rovers in the extended family. ALL see time off road. I’m fairly up on my failure modes and idiosyncrasies of the 3s and 4s.
I’ve been in contact with my local Independent Rover mechanic here in Portland for the past 50k miles/ 2yrs. In the hope that he comes across a single owner LR4 in good shape. Throughout that waiting I’ve been monitoring the types of repairs the LR4s are coming in for. Not statistically valid or super refined but I trust my mechanic- his experience with the two motors has him favoring the V8. OR an upgraded/repaired V6. Several months ago he purchased the 2012 LR4 that I’ve just purchased from him. It was owned by a customer of his and he has decent service records. The 140k miles on it seem trivial compared to my LR3 Again, all of the above is my $.02…. Worth everything you’ve paid for it.
