Hey all, thought I would give you all this warning. I have a 97 se7 V8 auto that is in great condition. Last week however I had the lower steering universal joint fail without warning where it clamps onto the imput shaft of the steering box. I item is manufactured out of aluminium alloy and while visually it looked servicable the internal spline stripped leaving me with a steering failure at highway speed. I recomend you do an inspection to your vehicle and if you fine any freeplay at all in the lower section, replace it as soon as possible.

Thank you for this post, this is need to know information before we buy these English cars. I bet this was overlooked in the import safety inspections…………. I’m glad you survived, that is an item that when engineered, should never fail. Brake system is on the top of the list as well.

I have heard of this issue before. Basically you should check these type of things everytime you grease the vehicle.
