What are the largest tires I can put on with stock suspension?

May be picking up a 2000 LRDII tomorrow and the stock tires look a little small compared to what I am used to. I will be using this for off-road and normal driving. What looks good but is still functional in all terrain?

Also, where is a good place to get an aftermarket roof rack that is not $1000? Damn! Makes ya want to buy a Jeep.

Without a lift:- 255x70x16 (30.05")
245x75x16 (30.468")
Any sizes higher than this will require lifting and depending on how high you go, some cutting & trimming.

Stock size is usually around 28.9" (if you have 16" rims). What size rims do you have?

You'd be surprised at how well the stock size tires work. People usually add suspension lifts to fits larger than OEM sized tires under there, and someone with a D2 will undoubtedly answer the question about tires.

You might want to start a separate thread about the roof rack for more attention, particularly considering your subject line.

For a roof rack, get a Yakima or Thule system, and add or build a basket for it. Mine's made out of aluminum wiring conduit (light and strong), and welded together by a man with one tooth  Parts were about $15, and labor cost was one liquified steak LOL

I forget how much they are, but Northwest Rover Parts makes what amount to knock-offs of racks that are reportedly nice and less expensive.

Why do you need a roof rack? Where are you that you're wheeling? Branches and things don't like roof racks much...

Thanks guys... I just went out and looked at one tonight. The place I work at offers employees off lease cars. This is a 2000 LDII with only 33K for $16,000. Does that sound like a good deal? Leather, everything power, 4x4, black.. looks real nice. The wife is the one that really wants it.

As far as the roof rack... I just like the way they look with the fog lights. We do quite a bit of camping in Danial Boone National Forest in Kentucky and need the off road capeabilitys... I got caught down there last year when the 4x4 went out in my Blazer. Not a good thing. Most of the trails are open but the rack would be nice to put bails of hay and wood for the fire on... instead of inside with the gear.

Here is a good web site just incase you are interested.
I have many friends that have racks with lights, they all look great but between the noise and the MPG I can't justify it.
Good luck with the new truck,
Mike J.

Not to mention the magnetic properties of the rack/lights. You'll attract tree limbs from a dozen feet away, and they'll rip things off your roof.
