I know that teh US door jamb says 33/42. But that I assume is for a car loaded to the MAX. What is the standard pressure to run? I think most cars in Europe list both - light and max load pressures. For us in US the assumption is that is too hard, so they list only the MAX one. What is the standard - light load pressure? I would guess 33/36?

I am asking as after running recommended pressures and getting uneven wear on tires teh dealer claimes that I am runing too MUCH air pressure.

Tire pressure should be based on the tire and load. If you are not running the factory tires you can throw those numbers out the door. Tire pressure is directly related to load. The more you have in it the higher the pressure you need to run....On pavement I run my BFG's at 50psi. Offroad they run at 20psi (I have gone down to 12 in extreem situations)

Example:
Tire Rated at 3000lbs and Max 80PSI
Truck weighs in at 7k (Standard load for me with 1 passenger)
1750lbs per tire (Assumes a 50/50 weight distribution, I'm not sure what it really is on the LR3)
This equals 58% of max load of the tire.
I would run 58% of max rated pressure of the tire as a minimum (46.4PSI)

When I was auto-xing these were the guide lines I used to determine tire presure on the race tires. This was then fine tuned by tire temperature with an infrared temp gun.

I'm not sure how the tire companies determine pressure but this is the method that I use...

This method has also yeilded even tire wear for me on all vehicles I have done this on...

I ran 40/42 with my 285/60/18 Coopers (on pavement), mostly for gas mileage and the fact they are soft enough to still give good ride, yet retain some cornering stiffness at that pressure.

Ryan - LR3 is very close to 50/50 weight distribution.

I use the recommended pressure with 111 load rated 19s. No problems, just need to reset with each rotation.

I knew in stock form it was pretty close. With all the extras I have added and the gear loaded I am biased to the rear (And I notice it while driving too). Not that I want to add anymore weight then I have but maybe an ARB would help balance it back out! One of these days I'll actually check the weight front to rear.
