2002 HSE 4.6 95k miles, just bought it basically site unseen, drove to put some gas in it, and I think the rear wheel bearing is shot to hell, but the sound goes away when I am accelerating or turning hard left. Jacked it up no slop in any of the wheels, and spun the wheels and no sound, guess no weight on it its not going to do anything. Wondering if it could be anything else, figure if it was the Rear Diff it would make noise constantly and not go away under acceleration or cornering, Just wanting some more opinions before i start throwing money at it.

It isn't hard to pull the wheels and check the bearings, I would also check to make sure the diff has oil, as well as the transfer case.

the only way you can pull the wheels off and tell if a bearing is bad is if it had completely destroyed itself or has slop, which mine has neither, I will check the fluid in the rear diff and see how it looks thanks for the reply

If the bearing is dried out with no grease it will make all kinds of noise and will soon destroy itself... if this would be the case. If it has been in some high water it could do this.

can't get the axle hub nut off, damn thing is on there like crazy glue, can't keep the breaker bar and socket from slipping because of how much pressure I am putting on it, put some penetrating lube on it, gonna let it sit for a while then try again, wonder if I should get a torch and heat it up as well?

That is your problem then.... that shouldn't even be tight, well not really tight, just snug.

well after letting it sit all night i went out and hit it this morning with the impact gun and it popped off like it was a water bottle cap , guess it just needed to soak in that lube. Now if UPS will get me my used hub i got on ebay ill stuff it on and see if it still roars like an airplane
