    tranny lights flashing!

Hello all, I have a 2000 Disco II with 68,000 miles on it. last week as I backed out and shifted into drive, I heard a bang and the manual and sport mode lights started flashing on the dash. I drove the car a couple of blocks to where I parked it and, when started later, the lights were off...

    power steering noise

Hello all. I have had my 2000 Disco II for three months now and am very pleased with it. I have noticed, however, that i have a mild sqeal when I turn. the fluid was near the minimum level and I topped it up but that did not seem to make a difference. Any ideas on what to check or is this par...

    mushy brakes

To add another voice, this quote is from the Rovers North fall, 2006 News. In "Robison on Rovers", John Robison states: "In my experience, the only explanation for a mushy pedal is improper bleeding procedure. Bleeding a Discovery II takes two people and the Land Rover test system, and it...

    mushy brakes

Thanks for the reply Nhveedub, your experience echos mine, except that even a LR dealer apparently did not improve it. We may be talking about two different aspects of the same general issue (poor braking) I don't think undersized brakes would make them feel mushy, but could have the fade and...

    mushy brakes

I have a 2000 Discovery II. Very pleased with it, except for mushy brakes. they don't really bother me (I used to drive old Jeeps, so I think mushy is normal) but other family members are not happy. The manual and a Rover's North column seem to say that only a Land Rover dealer can properly...

Totaled 2000 D2 -- Scrap or part out?

I had a 240 volvo that was hit on the front fender. the accident peeled the fender back, bending the inner fender well. the insurance totalled it, paid me for the car and let me keep it for $100.00. we sold it to a friend, for 400, they did a cheap (read used fender on the outside, hammer on...

    Rear door won't open!

I ended up using white lithium sprayed in. it is working now! the outside push up part of the latch was not returning totally to original position when released. much better now. I did not know you could remove the logo oval, that was a help. again thanks steven G.

    rust issues

Perhaps most of what i am seeing is due to this dissimiliar metals issue (perhaps combined with salt) some areas look brand new, but odd ones, like a steel bar that bolts to the inside of the quarter panel on the passenger side under the dash, has some rust. Does anyone know what body panels...

Thanks for the advice, i was speaking of the "tailgate" i will see how the wd-40 works. Like you, i don't mind the tempermental locking to much, but thought it might be connected to the problem at the back. againg thanks steve G.

    rust issues

Having a clapped out '65 series IIa in my garage, i am well aware of rust issues in Land Rovers. My new Discovery II (2000 model with 54,000 miles) originally came from Michigan (I am in Mississippi). It has some beginnings of surface rust in unusual places (like on welds inside the body...

    Rear door won't open!

I have a 2000 Discovery II with 54,000 miles. It has some issues with the central locking and the rear door not opening. climbing in the back, i found the previous owner had pulled back the upholstery panel at the latch. you can pull in out about 2" and push down the latch bar and the door...

Need advise on buying a Disco

Thanks for the replies. In regard to the question of "why buy a Disco II" I have answered my own question! I passed on a '96 that was solid but scuffy but found a 2000 model with 54,000 miles. Why get a Disco II? because the wife liked it! I will be moving to the Discovery forum for many...

Need advise on buying a Disco

From the looks of it, the Disco I would be the pick. Simpler is good. I am currently driving an old Jeep, so the ride can't be as rough as that and the storage is better, too. The Disco I has better approach and departure angles to boot. So what would be the advantages of the Disco II? I...

Need advise on buying a Disco

I am looking for an inexpensive Discovery for a second vehicle. it would be used during the week on short errands of only a few miles total, on weekends it would be used for camping, expedition type activity, towing a small trailer or a slightly larger camping trailer. I am wanting to put on a...
