In the US all they check is alignment. They don't check light pattern, how much it diffuses, color or anything else.

Something I'd like to look into is LR putting Halogen bulbs in HID housings to get a better beam and performance out of the halogen bulbs. You see it becoming more common in automobiles
No, it's not. Fitting halogen bulbs in a housing designed for HID defies the laws of physics as much as doing the reverse.
The shape of the arc of HID's and Halogens are entirely different and require different reflectors and lenses.

Kindly, please explain why the light pattern/output of the HID bulb installed in the factory LR Halogen Projector bulb housing is eerily similar to a factory LR HID, if they "are entirely different and require different reflectors and lenses."

You could always buy HID LR housings for about $1200 bucks and have them install and reprogram for another hundred bucks or so and call it a day. And for 2010 owners non-lux HSE you'd get the signature lighting too. This is what I'm likely going to do.

Just a follow up to this thread, I recently ordered the DDM HID kit (35W/5000k), and it was relatively easy to install. The descriptions/suggestions in prior posts certainly helped. I took a pic (attached, hopefully) after installing the driver's side. You can clearly see the difference between the HID and the Philips CV's I had in the passenger side. Visibility at night is greatly improved, and I don't see any evidence of distracting oncoming drivers (tested with a friend, and he thought they looked like any other car w/ OEM HIDs). Hoping that the kit and the bulbs hold up to the test of time; I'll probably order a replacement set of bulbs to have handy just in case one goes out (any idea what the expected life of these bulbs are?). I concur with the others here, that this is a worthy upgrade (for only about $50).

Hey goblue95,

Looks great! I agree, it makes such a different and really does not look any different than other HIDs on the road. I know there are some varying opinions on the thread, but I love them and it was totally worth the price. I know Tim once mentioned he had his on another car for years. I installed mine about two months ago and they still work great, same with baobay. I am likely going to order a new set as well....just to have on hand.... Thanks for the update and best of luck!
