The V8 is more powerful, but if you never owned a V8, the SCV6 will be fine. I'm just not a fan of the rotary shift wheel, eco-stop and mandatory running boards that came with the refresh in 2014. Reliability will be about the same for a 2013 thru 2016, which is pretty good. $2000/year in maintenance is realistic from my experience. If you have 15 minutes and a mityvac you can easily do your own oil and filter changes.

I have a feeling I'm not going to be a fan of the rotary shift and eco stop as well. The boards I don't care about much. If reliability is the same, V8 more powerful, 2013 probably cheaper then I see no point getting a 2014-16. Am I better off getting a CPO 2013 with 50-60k miles or a non-CPO pre-owned 2013 with perhaps 30-40k miles?

Find a 2013 CPO HSE-LUX with 30K miles. :)

Even if you have to look nationwide for that unicorn.

Just did a quick search on Autotrader. There is a 2013 white HSE-LUX for sale by owner in OK with 21,000 miles for $45K. If interested, run an Autocheck on the VIN and pay the LR dealer in OK to inspect it for you.

There was also a 2013 HSE in SC for sale by owner with a transferable CPO warranty that looked like it was well taken care of.

You can ship a vehicle anywhere these days. We bought my wife's LR4 new but I found mine online in Chicago with 13K miles on it and had it shipped to me here in Boston without ever seeing it in person. Thankfully it looked as good in person as the internet pictures.

Same here. Bought my LR4 from a Mercedes dealer in Tulsa sight-unseen. The options were exactly as I wanted (which was tough to find - specifically HD, plus white with tan interior instead of black like most of them) so it justified the $750 to ship it here to GA. I had it three days after my cashier's check hit their desk.

If you want to build it out for camping or touring or whatever, its nice to be able to put a second battery in the driver side battery box, rather than have it taken up by the golf cart battery for eco stop start. ;)

So I could buy an LR4 anywhere and have a dealer check it out for me? How about Craigslist? Like this one - https://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/cto/d/2013-land-rover-lr4/6393793629.html
I think getting a CPO car would be the safer route to go for me, but I don't mind getting a pre-owned vehicle for the right price.

As long as the owner agrees to the inspection and you are willing to pay for it, I'd have LR Manhattan do a pre-purchase inspection. Have them print out the LR dealer maintenance record for you as well. And pull an AutoCheck to be sure it wasn't in a major accident.

I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND a CPO LR4 --- I am on my 2nd LR4 (52k miles) and so far in the past 3 months I have had to have a new fuel pump installed, rear diff pinion seal replaced, headlight washer replaced, windshield washer replaced...so yeah. Didn't have to pay a dime since it was all covered, would have been pretty expensive to do all of that without the warranty. Plus since it's under the LR warranty I always got a nice loaner from the dealer like the new Velar and the RRS.

Can you buy a non CPO LR4, then have the dealer certify it and buy a service package from them?
