So we have an LR4 that has only 80,000 miles on it and my wife drove 2.5 miles home and during that time the plastic front crossover pipe busted and lost coolant and blew the engine. Two cylinders has cracks so guess what?!?!? It’s **** now! Yay!! Good job Landrover of America and ford(I knew I had a reason to hate ford already) anyhow this has been a mess and neither Landrover or ford will Admit that one or both of them created a ****** engine. So what do we do? Buy a $28,000 engine? Hire a pyrotechnics engineer to blow it truly up(just for the pleasure of watching) or put a used engine in it? Tell me your stories cause mine sucks and I’m burnt for life with Landrover! Long live my GM products(I’m on my 6th suburban in the last 10 years that I keep for 90,000 miles and trade for another new one and they are freaking amazing)

Did you replace the crossover pipe last summer?

This is my crossover pipe story.
About 2 minutes form home low coolant message appeared. AC became weaker. ( outside temp was 106*F. ) Parked the truck in my garage , got out of the car and I could smell burning coolant. At the same moment coolant started pouring down on the garage floor. Lost all the coolant in half a minute or less.
I would be furious if this happened on the road.
Pure luck it happened this way and the car did not overheat .
Towed my LR4 to Land Rover shop and off course it was this stupid plastic crossover pipe with Ford Motor Company logo on it. I was told that it was a common failure on LR4, but usually at 80,000 miles. My truck has about 54,000 miles. ( 2013).
It was fixed and everything is fine now. In an ideal world Land rover should pay for or repairs related to failure of Fo Mo Co plastic pipe.
This is a very bad design and consequences of its failure very scary and expensive . I was just lucky this time.
I am putting this crossover pipe on my list of regular maintenance items . ( not waiting another 50,000 miles for it to fail).

I asked if there were any aftermarket crossover pipes ( especially not plastic) but was told that nothing was available. So,my crossover pipe was replaced with a new Fo Mo Co part.
Anyone knows about other options?

Sorry, but I’m a bit confused.

Matt, am i correct in reading that you replaced the crossover a year ago and that pipe is the one that just ruptured?

Are these pipes really this crappy?

Matt, I am puzzled too. The plastic pipe may be crappy but if It fsiled just after one year then something is/ was wrong.
Are you sure the installation was correct?
