So the halogen foglight on the Discovery has always bothered me, especially when the AFS Bi-Xenon lights I have are ~5500k in color temperature.

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/land-rover-morimoto-xb-led.html

I was previously familiar with The Retrofit Source and Morimoto Products, and was intrigued with the Land Rover XB LED fog lights. These lights are plug and play, and took less than 5 minutes each to install. They will also fit on other Land Rover and Range Rovers (Replaces LR Parts # LR001587, LR057400)

The color temperature is 5500k, and output is claimed at 1,200 lumens per light.

Also has a 10 year warranty!

Anyways, onto the install! Like I said, this was very straight forward. I only looked up how to uninstall the old fog lamps, as I had no idea.

First, just a small comparison of the halogen fog light vs the LED fog light.

Each fog light comes in its own individual box.

First thing you need to do is pry the plastic cover off your front bumper. This was relativly painless for me. I carefully stuck my fingernails under the cover and popped it off. You can also use a plastic trim tool (wrapped in a soft cloth to not scrape your paint) to remove this cover. The clips are metal and I did not break any.

You need a Torx T-20 bit/screwdriver to remove the OEM foglights.

I was expecting 4 Torx screws per foglight, but was greeted with only 3... Maybe my car was made on a Friday.

I rotated the light assembly inside the housing to first remove the bulb/wire from the fog light, remove the fog light, and then unplug the bulb. The clips are pretty standard. The OEM lightbulb comes out with a counterclockwise rotation.

Clips weren't too bad to get off. You can pry both off at once and go for it, or easily pry both off a little and pull the entire bulb out at once. If you intend to reuse these bulbs, don't get your finger oils on them.

The rubber protectors need to come off the contacts on the end of the wires.

Before inserting the contacts into the plug, make sure you're putting the positive/negative on the correct side.

The blue is positive (red), black is negative. On the Morimoto provided plug, there is a little bump on the top. Make sure this is lined up properly, or else you be reversed when you go to install it. The plug only goes in one way.

The new Morimoto housing is complete plug and play. It just slides right into the little slots. (Notice only 3 of the holes for the torx have been used?!)

Plug in, and slide it in, and screw it in. I elected to use the OEM torx screws, and did not use the provided bolts that came with the kit. They seemed huge and I didn't want to enlarge the OEM holes. (This may be different for other Land Rovers, I'm not sure. But the LR4 I did not use them.)

All that's left is putting the cover back on. Before snapping the bumper cover back on, I'd recommend testing the lights.

Here's the final output. Against a wall they have a slight curve up and a little roundness, but look very cool projected on the ground (Come on, these are for looks, not actual use if one has Bi-Xenon lights already)

I'll take a picture of the output on the ground in a few days if anyones interested.

Looks good. I was of the belief that fogs are more effective with a lower K. and this is why many euro fogs were actually yellow. With a high K fog light just cause more glare? They do look better.

I have swapped my white fog lights for PIAA yellow bulbs which work better in blinding snow. Nice that you can even run fog lights without the headlights on our vehicles.

Here is one step I would add...after you pull off the trim ring and before you remove the 3 screws, put some tape over the holes that are under the bulb. If (when) a screw drops down it can fall into those holes and disappear forever.

These look really good. On an off-road trip in New Mexico I discovered that I could use more lighting, especially off to the sides. I have purchased a set of grille mounted Lazer off road lights, and plan to install them this winter on my 2010 LR4. Here is the web link:

On my 1991 RRC I changed out the halogen bulbs in the driving lights to yellow ones like PaulLR3 did, and they do work well in foggy and misty conditions.

Safe travels,

David

Those look nice. I assume you need a dash switch for them?

That's cool. Morimoto is good stuff - I used their projectors to retrofit my '05 F150 some years back.

Hi TheWidup,

The Lazer kit comes with a dash switch, relay and wiring. The only thing I need to figure out is how to wire them into the high beam circuit if I want to be legal.

Safe travels,

David

I did install the Morimoto fogs couple of years ago and it was a very good decision, I like them a lot. I believe they work very well and help me a lot during the night and during the day I use them as daytime running lights.

I love my 2012 LR4 and I take good care of it.
