After reviewing this forum and others on the never ending discussions on what type of oil to use as a substitute for the illustrious Castrol Edge Poopfessional, I've decided to do my next oil change with the real thing! There is a seller on eBay selling off long sleeve Land Rover pullover shirts for twenty bucks including shipping so I bought three. Then I inquired if they were in fact a Land Rover dealer cuz I kind of recognized the shelving that is similar to The Land Rover dealer here in Denver. He said yes it is Land Rover of Virginia Beach. Anyway he is shipping me bona fide 0w20 Castrol Edge professional. $104.55 for nine quarts shipped to Denver Colorado. British Atlantic sells the same oil I believe for $13.99 and I believe the Land Rover dealer here in Denver cells the same oil for $11.99. by my math I'm buying it from the dealer in West Virginia for $11.62! And I don't pay any tax! I'm happy to share the contact Eric Gardner and his email address if anyone is interested in using the OEM oil so they, like me, can sleep at night!

Good find. One of my local LR dealers sells Castrol 5w20 for $10.95/qt or $11.61 total w/Maryland's 6% tax. Not as convenient as getting it shipped to my door but it gets me out of the house.

Also, as a proud WV Mountaineer, Virginia Beach is in Virginia, not West Virginia! If anything, it's in eastern Virginia.

Back to oil, has anyone ever determined why this one particular Castrol "flavor" is so immune to discounting? Is our engine the only one in the automotive world that uses it? Every time I do an oil change I feel like I'm pouring the world's most precious EVOO into my engine.

Nearly everything I've read states that 5W20 or 0w20 for colder climates so I'm not sure if you're a hundred percent accurate on that.

Land Rover calls for 5W-20. It's quite possible that 0W-20 may be allowed for cold climates. But to categorically say 0W-20 is fine is not 100% accurate by the book.

I believe factory oil specs changed when the SCV6 engine was introduced in 2014 on the LR4. Used to be 5W20 for the V8, s/b 0W20 for the V6. Not sure why, but I guess everyone here is correct. :)

That makes sense.

Just to spoil everyone's fun, my dealer is currently replacing my timing chain guides under warranty, and all I've ever used since I've owned it (some 38k miles) is Mobil 1. The type of oil I use was never brought up when the repair was approved by the LR CPO warranty.
