I have 2011 LR4. Yesterday I used my jack to raise the car from passage rear tire to repair nailed tire. When being raised , the jack was broken suddenly. It almost hit me. This was my second time to use the jack which looked brand new, but it was not strong enough to hold the car. I had horrible experience. I bought one from Walmart. It was much stronger than the original jack

Wow. I've never used mine. I used my floor jack the first time installed the winter tires and ever since, I've been lucky enough to have a lift. But I was always curious given the weight of the LR4.

Glad you are ok. I'd bring it up to LR, personally, if you feel you used it properly and it failed.

I believe the design had problem. The broken section was suddenly narrowed and caused the problem.

My neighbor was changing a flat tire on his LR4 and the jack twisted and collapsed. Luckily he was not hurt and didn't remove the tire yet. Dealer gave him a new jack free of charge, but clearly our jacks may not be strong enough for our vehicles.

They are strong enough if positioned properly under the 4 jacking points of the car. If the locating pin is not evenly aligned with the matching hole on the chassis, or if the terrain it's resting on is not flat and even, it'll easily bend, snap and break.

I had to use mine off-road a few times, it worked but it was not easy to place it correctly on a dirt road or a trail, you really need to closely watch the extending frame of the jack as you operate it, and at the very first sign of its frame appearing to twist unnaturally or the mechanism becoming harder to turn all of a sudden, reverse direction immediately, reposition and try again. It can definitely be a PITA and is not confidence inspiring. The jack is intended for emergency use only.

I correctly positioned the jack at the right place which is flat concrete.

My car is 8 years old. I don't know If dealer will honor a new one for free. This was my second time use. The first time I used other hydraulic jack helped EOM one.

The jack for my air suspension D5 is identical except for the saddle. I used it 3 weeks ago when swapping the stock tires/wheels (255/55-20 Goodyears on 20x8.5 wheels) for off-road tires (285/50-20 Nittos on 20x9.5 wheels). Cranking the jack was very difficult so I applied grease to the shaft, which helped a little. I can see how torsional stress on the shaft could cause it to shear, which would suck if I was in the middle of the desert somewhere. I've already checked Amazon, which has many alternatives. This thread has given me an incentive to get one before venturing out again.
