Had to have my wheelbearing assembly replaced on short notice a couple weeks ago at the dealership ( not my first choice) and they informed me I had a leak coming from the rear of the engine as well as noisy chain guides and recommended I pay them $4500 to replace just the guides and a couple hundred to investigate the leak.

I took my 2011 to my preferred indy shop this week and they said the rear leak was very very slight and they suspect it is the rear main seal. They recommended just watching it for now. I booked an appointment for the end of June as I am taking a big trip in early July and want to get it checked out prior to that. I'll have them replace the seal then if it is getting noticeably worse. They also said they could not hear any noise from the chain guides themselves, they did a cold start and used a stethoscope but they said any slight noise I am hearing would be from the lifters or valves and recommended an induction cleaning service if I am concerned about it.

I did a quick search on the forums and I can't find any other reported issues of leaking main rear seals on the LR4's, am I the first one with this issue? Only 104K Miles on my 2011. They are quoting it as a $1700 replacement so not the end of the world but not exactly cheap either.

How did you know your wheelbearings were going bad? I too have an '11 with 104K miles:)
Did you do just one?

I also haven't heard of any RMS problems on the Rover sites, now if you check Porsche chat rooms they are all over the place:mad:. Will get mine down when I need a new clutch.

One of mine was making a loud howling noise. Replaced both front hubs at around 88K miles.

I was on my way to work and just heard a loud grinding noise intermittently, took it to the dealership as I had to drive across state the next day and they said the front right hub and bearing assembly needed to be replaced. Should I be expecting the left one to start failing as well?

DirtyHal,

Maybe.. It might have been a bad bearing, or it could be the driving conditions that caused it to take the dirt nap.. You can check the left one for play by raising the wheel and seeing if it shakes camber-wise..

jpjp: There will be no mentioning of RMS failures from the Rennlist here!! I don't want to start drinking heavily on a weekday.. I had an RMS on my keychain from my last turbo, that procedure still gives me nightmares..
