2011 LR 4 won't turn over, locked in Park, emergency brake set

This morning my wife pulled the LR 4 out of the garage. It idled rough for just long enough for several faults to come up, including Transmission Fault and HDC Fault. The idle smoothed back out within a few seconds, so she shut it off to clear the faults from the dashboard. When she went to start it, it wouldn't turn over - like not even trying to turn over. I suspected a weak battery, so I removed it and took it over to Autozone. They said it was bad and gave me a new one. But, when I put it back in it still wouldn't turn over.

I've also heard that a bad brake switch could cause issues like this, but both brake lights are coming on.

The brake pedal is extra stiff, it is locked in park and the emergency brake automatically sets when the ignition is not on.

Any thoughts?

Try pushing extra ******* the brake pedal while pressing the ignition switch. Additionally, try moving the shifter handle while trying to start it. Keep your foot on the brake the entire time, of course.

I'm not sure what's happening, those faults definitely occur with a dead battery. You could try to do a hard reset. Disconnect battery, wait 15 minutes then touch the positive and negative battery cables together for a few seconds. See if that resets whatever problem you are having.

Funny, I took the new battery back to have it checked. It passed the load test and was 89% charged, so I had them charge to 100%. The cables were undone for over an hour, but I didn't know to touch them together before I hooked the battery back up. I'll have to unhook them again and try that.

I tried the hard reset. It didn't really clear anything except the clock and switched the temperature to C instead of F. It's at the mechanic, not. I'll follow up with what I find out.

Follow-up: The mechanic says it is a bad valve body in the transmission - $5000.00. Ouch!

How many miles on your LR4?

You can buy a used transmission and swap it in for less than that. See Scott's thread on here.

The valvebody is preventing the engine from starting? And $5k to repair?

I'd consider a second opinion.
