I had trouble like that and it turned out to be the shift interlock switch--you can test it by disconnecting it--if it starts that's the problem, you can replace it or run it without it-- Just be careful about making sure it is in Park when you get out

I found this trick in the manual: when it won't turn over, even with a charge, try this: slowly depress the accelerator all the way down; then, with foot on the brake, push starter button; release accelerator pedal as soon as you push the button. Starts right up. This does not address any of the theories posted in this thread. But it might have solved the OP's problem if he had tried that from the start.

Ok, so to clarify... for the LR4, regardless of whether it is petrol or diesel, the gearbox changed from 6 speed to 8 speed from the 2012 model year.
This can also include some cars registered in 2011 as the model year is the factory based spec change rather than a drop dead date of December 31/jan 1

So if you have the rotary gear selector it is the 8 speed electronically controlled box.
If you have the gear lever selector it is the cable controlled 6 speed box.
And yes the 6 speed box is also electronically controlled when you put it in sport mode but it is already cable controlled to put it into drive.

Hope that helps.

Of course there may also be some old stock 2011 model year cars registered in 2012 just to make it more confusing....

Actually here in the U.S., the 2013 model year LR4 has a gear lever selector with 6-speed transmission (V8 gasoline). It was the last year of that configuration over here. That's the setup I have.

Welcome!

Just to help solve the mystery... North American "model years" are not the same as Europe/ROW, just like NA/USA VIN format is usually different as well. Europe/ROW generally uses production date (year/month), NA/USA does not. A vehicle built in the second half of 2012 will typically be "2013 USA model year".

Also, in USA, date of first registration does not affect anything (apparently different than UK).
