Crossover pipe = coolant. Top, center of the engine, under the intake.

LCA = lower control arms. Specifically, the rear lower control arm bushings on the front suspension goes bad.

So when does the transmission go? 150,000 miles or ? I have a 2011 LR4 after selling my 2008 version, but this 2011 has had all kinds of problems. TG I did have the warranty to 100,000 miles, but that is over now. This rig requires new brakes/rotors on front and back every 50,000 miles; the bluetooth phone connection just stopped working and they want over $700 to replace it with a new module, and they also want another $700 to replace the 3 knobs which control the A/C, heat, etc. The knobs have turned sticky and cracked - like a puppy has slobbered and chewed them (not the case!) and I just need the round rubber type rings. They say the entire face would have to be replaced. WHAT??? And now I feel a drag in the transmission. I’m at 142,000 miles with regular service being done by dealership. Looking for a 2016 model soon.

These things do go through brakes. fortunately they are no different than any other vehicle. if you can do a brake job on anything else you can do a brake job on these. Dealer rates are highway robbery on brakes. Do it yourself for 1/3 or less of the dealer charge.

Your knob issue is common. Pop then off and scrub them down with goof-off. The rubbery feeling will be gone, but so will the stickiness. Alternatively, there are replacement knobs available in silver from eBay/Amazon for a few bucks.

It is very likely that your transmission has never been serviced as LR makes the absolute bull$hiit claim of "lifetime" fluid. At 142K it might be too far gone. But you might try replacing the fluid, filter and servos. If you End up with a new transmission, change the fluid/filter at 75000 miles regardless of what anyone tells you.

Bluetooth issue is out of my paygrade. Sorry.

Now that you have an out of warranty LR, if you are not going to wrench on it yourself, you absolutely must find a competent independent shop. An out of warranty LR should never visit the dealership under any circumstances.

I have a 2011 LR4 with approx. the same mileage as yours. In the past two weeks I have had my hood latch cable snap, and the water pump/front crossover pipe job done. I usually do the work myself, but have been super busy lately and the hood was just getting irritating. $457 for the hood work, then $1300 for the water pump/crossover pipe along with some new belts. This is a 2 hour job if you do it yourself which would have made it significantly cheaper. I know you are saying it is more of an emotional decision, so please keep the car if you want, but just plan to spend $2-3k a year on maintenance, regardless of who is doing it. Everyone else's opinions and comments are dead on. There is just a bit of a difference between people saying it gets expensive and be prepared for maintenance, and then actually being there having to shell out the cash which is where I am at now. I love the car, cant find anything that might drive better for the size; but I am a little tired of all the maintenance work. I'm a little over $9,000 in maintenance for the 2019, but a majority of that was the timing chain work. Great car, but expensive.

I’m reading this post as I wait for a flat bed tow truck to pick up my 2011 LR4 because the parking brake is stuck and won’t disengage. I’ve tried powering off the car completely to let it reset and even removing the fuse but it still won’t budge.

Are you taking it to an independent or the dealer? $1300 for a 2-hour job and about $400 in parts is some steep labor rates.
