I need suggestions of what to look for to fix this annoying rattle getting in my 2011 LR4.
Ive been trying to track down a high pitched mettalic rattling sound, similar to that of a loose heat shield.
It is very evident at lower speeds (10-40mph), coming from the rear passenger side, under the car. Not sure it it is suspension related, but it is recreated whenever i hit a bump with the rear passenger tire.
so far ive...
1.replaced the shock - for unrelated reason. verified all top and bottom bolts are tight
2.poked and prodded around the underside, hitting random parts firmly to see if there is something loose. nothing obvious, everything sound solid when i hit it.
3. zip tied anything that could have possibly hit against the underside. this pretty much means all of the hoses/wiring/cables that run along by the rear transfer case and the fuel lines.
3. checked the brake dust shield for looseness.
4. checked the brake caliper. it has a minor amount of in/out play, equal to the driver side. assumed normal since disc brakes "float". bolts are tight.
5. removed spare tire. made sure the cable/holder is retracted fully and tight.
6. pried around at the control arms. all bushing seems good. the control arm at passenger rear appears newer than the rest. assumed it has been replaced recently, prior to my ownership.
7. replaced sway bar bushings.
8. inspected sway bar end link. appears good, no sign of play when pried against it. <- this still concerns me though as it seems like the most possible problem.
9. knocked around at the wheel well, making sure there is nothing hitting the inside of it. i did not remove the wheel well though.
10. verified sound is there when suspension is in access, normal, and high modes.
None of the above has changed the sound.
again, sound is obvious if hit passenger rear hits a bump. makes me think its something suspension related. but could also be just something lose in that area, and the sudden movement makes it rattle.
any ideas?
