Unless you really knew your way around cars I wouldn’t, I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about those when they were new I couldn’t imagine what they would be like to own now being 20 years old.

I'd stick with one or the other. I'm liking my LR4 but today I couldn't pass a RAM truck getting on the freeway. He did have the jump on me but I need more power now. Stepping down to a disco 2 would hurt even though it is a classic. It depends on what you want really. I'm wanting that tap engine now.
I agree. Not sure about the V6 but the V8 has a great torque band. Transmission rarely hunts gears even while towing.I've never had any issue keeping up with traffic, doesn't feel like it's really working hard at it, even in the 80-90 range.
I wouldn't buy one to drive in its original form due to the reliability issues. I have been looking at Disco 1&2s lately as a platform for an LSx/6L80 swap though
@powershift I feel ya. The LR4 is nicer and I wouldn't trade it straight across. I just saw the Disco 2 that was all decked out and thought it was a really cool ride. I'm tempted by that Tapa engine too. Took a drive of over 600 miles round trip last weekend through Eastern Washington State and the flow of traffic had to be 80-90 mph. I was cruising along at 65 mph and felt like a road cone blocking the slow lane. I could have gone a bit faster, but it would have felt like I was pushing it. I can accelerate to 80 mph, or more, but again, it feels forced. Not sure if it is just engine though. It might be everything - suspension, wind drag, transmission, etc. Just not sure it's designed to do well at highway speeds or maybe it needs to be in near perfect condition to do so.
You don't understand what I want and in no way would I buy a Cayenne. Its an egg on wheels.I understand that we want the LR4 to be an all purpose vehicle but speed and acceleration will never be one of those purposes. The truck is nearly 6000 lbs and I feel like that is self explanatory. That being said these things are bad ass and they are machines off road, they would put any ram truck in their place on The trail (except probably the TRX). I have a resonator cut off on my rig and it sounds amazing but that doesn’t mean I try to race everything on the road, I just have something to put a smile on my face when I need it. These 5.0 V8’s sound awesome. If you want a fast suv you buy something like a V8 X5 or GLS etc. I recently got a cayenne S and love it. Different cars different purposes.
