I am about to do an oil change and although this oil isn't recommended in the manual and does not appear to satisfy the ACEA -C5 specification, I am curious to know if anyone has venture to try it. I reckon that I would try it and change the filter out within 1k miles and change the oil in 3500k to 4500k miles.

Any thoughts?

I am always a bit suspicious when manufacturers go all in on a particular brand such as JLR with Castrol, yes, it is a good brand, but permanent partnerships like the one between Firestone and Ford ended up terribly wrong and with the higher-than-normal failure rate of this motors, it has given me pause. I know many of the issues are crossover pipes related, nevertheless.... There are plenty of independent folks who have tested the Restore& Protect product with "astonishing" results, however, I shall heed the words of the Rover sages and hold off on this for right now. I will run it through my older Jaguar XJ first and do a before and after analysis after 1500 miles. I don't think I have driven that in 2 years.

I haven't heard anyone call up ACEA C5 for these engines, just the super obscure STJLR.03.5004.

I am running the Costco/Kirkland 5w30 full synthetic in mine and keeping the interval short at 10k km.

I've been interested in giving this product a try since it hit the market and the youtube sphere. After reading to borderline ad nauseam about it on Bobistheoilguy https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/valvoline-restore-protect.381635/page-85 I'm sure that there is some merit to the claims. At the price point of oil vs the cost of VVT's as long as Blackstone comes back with solid results I can't fathom a downside to running it.

With all that being said that's my current feelings and they may likely change, so we will see if the proof is in the pudding. I will be creating a thread that covers both my LR4 5L and my wifes L322 5L Supercharged running R&P. This product could be a game changer or just a flash in the pan. Hopefully the former, not the later.

I'm running Valvoline R&P in my 2016 LR4 and my 2008 LR3. The benefits are not snake oil. When I bought my LR3 with over 212K miles it was burning oil. I checked compression and one cylinder was noticeably lower than the others (cylinder 8) when dry but normal when wet indicating a stuck piston ring. I switched to R&P and within the first oil change cycle the oil consumption stopped. My neighbor's newer KIA has oil consumption as well and R&P reduced the consumption considerably. When I removed the valve cover on my LR3 to change a valve cover gasket recently, I noticed that the inside of the engine was spotless. No sludge to be found at 252K miles (See Attached Image). I think running R&P in a LR4 is good preventive maintenance to prevent timing chain failures due to lack of lubrication caused by sludge.

Brilliant, I went with Castrol Performance because I wasn't sure, but I will be using R&P in my Jags when I do the oil next week. and switch to it for my LR4 in 5k miles or so. Great feedback.

I’m on my second oil change with Valvoline R&P 5W-30 in my 2016 LR4. The truck has 104k miles. Within the first 500 miles the startup was noticeably quieter. Less mechanical cold start noise and also quieter at idle. Oil filter inspection after 5k miles was unremarkable. No metal or gooey clots. The vehicle is running well. Instead of oil analysis I change the oil every 5k. Old habits are hard to break.

I plan on doing the same 5k intervals. An ounce of prevention as the saying goes. Plus, it is so easy doing the changes with an Oil extractor. Interestingly, when I did the change (Castrol Extended performance) The oil was very dark and had burnt scent, even though the actual next scheduled change was in 13k miles. The oil filter was cleaned and looked great; it just felt like the dealership didn't really change the oil (Land Rover of Naples were the exclusive servicer the entire time).
