Ah, yeah that isn't just a GAP reading. Did the temperature needle move at all? Mine tells me if its cold, that is about all but I'm wondering if it actually moves up from mid-point lol.
Sorry about your misfortune. I had a lot of problems getting mine sorted. Never had suck a terrible experience but when I look back in time all my vehicles have been new since 1995 so I used the warranty. Then I did all my own work on vehicles outside of warranty. Now I'm not doing it that way and shops have taken me for a ride repeatedly like Kensington Motorcars. The local Land Rover dealer quoted me $3k to do the chain, I knew better on that offer. I spent 3 months trying to find a shop. I'm starting to think part of the problem might be Las Vegas business culture, but I still think there might be a lagit shop out there I just haven't found them yet.
Yeah, the temp gauge moved, but the middle is roughly 200-230F, and the top half is 230-260F. Moving from 230F (fine) to 260F (overheat) is only seconds. In reality, I’ve been troubleshooting a pressurized coolant reservoir for the two months I’ve owned it, so I’m I’m certain it was overheated prior to my ownership and had a bad head gasket, so who knows how bad it was previously overheated.
I’m having a fresh reman engine installed by a reputable Land Rover shop in late August. $22k but does come with a 3 year warranty.
I seriously thought about buying a new LR4 for $15k, but I just installed a new factory heated windshield ($2k), lower control arms and alignment ($1.5K). I could swap over the new brakes, plugs, coils, filters, wipers, wheels, and tires from the current truck, but I’d still be losing $10k after disposing of it wholesale. The new LR4 would have nearly 100k miles with the same weak points, and may end up needing expensive engine work just the
same.
For a $12k difference, I keep what I have and benefit from a 0 mile engine, with 3 year piece of mind, upgrade to aluminum coolant pipes, and can do 5K oil changes from the beginning. Under the current circumstance and the hand I was dealt …that’s my play. Current truck is a HSE Lux with locking rear differential and no dents. It’s respectable enough to save.
