Hello all,

I am new to this community but have been reading it for a year since getting my '06 HSE. Last winter I figured I'd drive through the season with the OEM Goodyears. I was not impressed with their cold weather traction.

My other car has a set of Michelin Pilot Alpins, and despite being a rear-driver I could do everything better (accel, corner, panic-stop) when driving on a lightly snow-covered or frost covered road.

I'll keep using the GYs for the summer, but I am now looking for a good winter tire. I do drive through 2ft deep snow from time to time with average winter temps down around -10C to -20C.

Any experiences out there? What do you recommend?

If you have the HSE you need 255 55 19 size tires. Nokian now makes this size for their winter tire. You can get these with or without studs. They are the best winter tire you can buy.

I have been using Bridgestone Blizzaks on my 05 HSE. When I bough the tires, they were not avaible in 19 inch, so I had to get a set of 18 inch rims from LR. The 5 spoke rims were alot cheeper than the normal 10 spoke SE rims. I do not know if bridgestone is now making a 19 inch blizzak. The two most common winter tires in Alaska are the Blizzak and the Nokian Hakkapeliitta

Our Snow season starts this month, and ends the begining of May. The stock GoodYear tires are awful on ice and snow. The money spent on high performance winter tires is worth it..
