    Do bushings save control arms?

Do whatever work needs to be done now. Wear like that only gets more expensive. DIY Oil changes seldom include lubricating the suspension bits and pieces. Add that to your list of regular maintenance so that when the day comes to remove those bits and pieces they come off clean and easy rather...

    2010-2012 vs. 2013+ LR4 changes?

Assuming worst/best case scenario, an '11 or '12 with ~100,000 miles and none of the big work mentioned above done, how much would you budget for future repairs and proactive/preventative maintenance with fairly typical worst case conditions? I am fairly DIY and the truck would be a third...

Why do american trucks get much better mpg that the lr4?

And there may be some gaming of the system by Ford, GM, etc., to meet the US requirements. I had a 2011 Explorer LTD, AWD, and the window sticker claimed 17/23 but I never saw anything close to 23 on the highway and my combined was 17.8. Our X5 driven on the same routes, same driver, averaged...

Thoughts on 2016 LR4 HSE Lux (Landmark) purchase?

I wouldn't be too worried about the accident since they report it as minor damage. The lesson I learned- I'd rather have the reported accident than the unreported one. I recently bought a CPO BMW X5 and made the classic mistake of buying it on a rainy day. No obvious damage and I got a good deal...

I love the title of this post- it describes a little life frustration that I have too though I don't have as much loose stuff.

    Considering LR4 purchase

My only advice- stick with it! I am extremely happy with my CPO X5 but still look longingly at the rare LR4 I see on the road. I will be needing a third vehicle in about a year and an LR4 is at the top of my list. The ONLY downside for me was the distance to the closest dealership. At an hour...

    LR4 Landmark Audio Upgrade...

If you have the money for a $5,000 system, perhaps decide on the speakers you would use in that system and replace a pair (4,6, etc.) of the stock speakers. You may be surprised at how much better it sounds with that simple upgrade. This isn't the place to get into the nitty of hi-fi audio and...

    6 Months with LR4 - my observations

I still don't have my first LR4 but love the threads here. Thanks! My grandpa was a goold old Texas Hill Country guy and taught me to wave to everyone. Some folks up in Michigan "get it" but most are oblivious or don't wave for whatever reason. Not many LR4's around here but I wave when I see...

Traction/Stability control on snow and ice?

Thanks for the input. I grew up driving in Minnesota and lived in Texas long enough to experience black ice and oil-slick roads after rain, so I understand the importance of the driver and that is why I always buy the highest rated tires on TireRack.com. That said, I could step the back end out...

Traction/Stability control on snow and ice?

Quality tires make a significant difference, that is a good point. Snow tires don't make much sense for me where I am in southern Michigan. We get a few bad days spread out over the season but I don't want to sacrifice braking, handling, etc. for the other 130 days. The various terrain modes...

Traction/Stability control on snow and ice?

I did a quick search but did not see anything to answer my question... Watching a video of a comparison between the LR4 and Land Cruiser in snow I noticed the LR4 was shown getting sideways in corners and the L/C was not. It may have been the driving technique but it may have been the vehicle...

    Thoughts on 08' BMW X5 4.8i?

:) That's a can of worms question. Like any motor, some folks have problems and some don't. The good thing is that motor, or variants, have been in use since 2001 and BMW continued to use it through 2010 model year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N62#N62B48 The newer motor has had some issues...

Never knew tires actually had this much impact on the ride quality

Some vehicles come with good/great tires from the factory. Others, not so much. Our Ford Explorer LTD AWD had absolutely terrible Hankook tires on it from the factory. The change to Michelin Premier LTX was so nice! Taking the time to look at TireRack.com will provide so much good information...

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

Great thread! A couple of thoughts/observations: 1) New BMW X5 due soon - this Fall? X7 Rumored to be coming too. I know that doesn't help for 2017 depreciation. 2) The tow vehicle weight argument may be old school thinking at this point. Or not. All I know is my X5 was a fantastic tow vehicle...

Long term plan for the LR4

The folks over at the BMW Car Club of America, notably Mike Miller, has a "better than factory" maintenance guide which many people follow: https://www.dslreports.com/r0/download/2294029~a7ccced57c514756e4c445baa2542b06/Lifetime%20Maintenance%20Schedule%20v03.13.pdf

LR4 Offroad Performance WITHOUT Heavey Duty Package

I don't get the tire thing either, on a premium vehicle. I am disappointed that Ford used the cheapest tires on the Limited (premium) edition of the Explorer, disappointed but not surprised. I am surprised that Land Rover didn't go with the best tire, even if it is an all-season, on the LR4...

LR4 Offroad Performance WITHOUT Heavey Duty Package

For the tech folks in the forum, there are now multiple ways to achieve traction control and the more advanced use torque-vectoring AWD systems to alter the power going to each wheel rather than using the brakes to limit it. Note that some/all of them may use the brakes too- I am not certain...

    Comparison Test Request

I just realized there are two different "needs" for the off road community: 1) Fun 2) Get where you need to go without stress I'd bet most of us prefer the most fun method, the one requiring learned skill and technique to overcome an obstacle. That said, getting down an untracked, snow-covered...

    Comparison Test Request

https://outbackjoe.com/macho-divertissement/macho-articles/diff-locker-vs-traction-control/ This is an advertisement video for ARB but does show the differences to some degree. Unfortunately, ARB doesn't make anything for the current gen LR4. One obvious take-away from all of this- there is a...

LR4 Offroad Performance WITHOUT Heavey Duty Package

One of the local dealerships organizes an annual trip to a local off road park and I <think> they offer instruction too. It may be worth checking to see if something is available locally for anyone interested. Here is the L.R. site...
