Why do american trucks get much better mpg that the lr4?
And there may be some gaming of the system by Ford, GM, etc., to meet the US requirements. I had a 2011 Explorer LTD, AWD, and the window sticker claimed 17/23 but I never saw anything close to 23 on the highway and my combined was 17.8. Our X5 driven on the same routes, same driver, averaged... -

I wouldn't be too worried about the accident since they report it as minor damage. The lesson I learned- I'd rather have the reported accident than the unreported one. :) That's a can of worms question. Like any motor, some folks have problems and some don't. The good thing is that motor, or variants, have been in use since 2001 and BMW continued to use it through 2010 model year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N62#N62B48 The newer motor has had some issues... -

Never knew tires actually had this much impact on the ride quality
Some vehicles come with good/great tires from the factory. Others, not so much. Our Ford Explorer LTD AWD had absolutely terrible Hankook tires on it from the factory. The change to Michelin Premier LTX was so nice! Taking the time to look at TireRack.com will provide so much good information... -

Great thread! A couple of thoughts/observations: 1) New BMW X5 due soon - this Fall? X7 Rumored to be coming too. I know that doesn't help for 2017 depreciation. 2) The tow vehicle weight argument may be old school thinking at this point. Or not. All I know is my X5 was a fantastic tow vehicle... -

I don't get the tire thing either, on a premium vehicle. I am disappointed that Ford used the cheapest tires on the Limited (premium) edition of the Explorer, disappointed but not surprised. I am surprised that Land Rover didn't go with the best tire, even if it is an all-season, on the LR4... -

For the tech folks in the forum, there are now multiple ways to achieve traction control and the more advanced use torque-vectoring AWD systems to alter the power going to each wheel rather than using the brakes to limit it. Note that some/all of them may use the brakes too- I am not certain... -
