    $4.00 radiator cap - $3000 engine

Huh? Seemed like a good suggestion....and a lot cheaper than the Great Divide Edition Malleable Radiator Plug from those vultures at EE (it's the most elegant solution I'm sure, at least in their minds). But hey, if you've got the money, knock yourself out! :stupid:

How hard is it to install a snorkel on a 98 Disco

Speakers in the rear door are a subwoofer. Rear "upper corner" speakers are 6x9 IIRC Door speakers are round, can't remember diameter.

    Canoe help me out

I don't have a canoe up there, but I have the tallest Thule gutter feet, and they (barely) allow the crossbar to clear the roof in the back. Less of an issue in the front, of course, on a Disco. I'm sure Yakima makes mounts that are tall enough too, as I've seen Yakima roof rack baskets on...

Loosening lug nuts on Disco 1!

    (1) Get rid of that lug wrench, it's worthless (2) Buy a 1/2" drive breaker bar (they're not expensive, and you'll use it a lot) (3) Buy a 1 1/16" socket, 1/2" drive (4) Buy a 1 1/8" socket, 1/2" drive (5) Fit 1st socket to breaker bar (6) Try loosening with combination formed in (5) (7)...

    fuel pump pressure gauge??

Did you get some spurting out of the Schrader valve when you opened it?
  11. Moose

    Frozen solid.

AFAIK, Gauge is controlled on a separate relay from the fuel pump. Try having someone turn the ignition on with you looking at the relays in the kick panel with the lights out. You can actually see the fuel pump relay spark when it it working. It'll light up just a little bit. I had a fuel...

    Fish tail problems?

Maybe it was the space between the steering wheel and the back of the driver's seat? A LOT of one-car accidents (which your ditch incident was) are due to driver error. These are not bulletproof, all-conquering vehicles, especially on snow/ice. Tires help, but so does learning how to drive...

Possible you had an air bubble that was released by opening the cap and pouring in some additional quantity of coolant.

    Oil Pan Gasket Leak

I've changed mine twice, and each time had leaks. Hardly leaked at all before. I'm not sure if it's as easy on a D1 as a DII, but there's like 42 little bolts that hold the pan in place; then you just drop it down and scrape all the old gasket bits off. Drain your oil first, of course...

    Disco or Range Rover?

I like the height difference, and I like the coil sprung suspension (but I have an old Disco), and I like the VERY unique look of Discoveries over RRs. I would, however, sell my Disco in a minute if I could go even-up for a 1990-1994 Range Rover Classic SWB. I love those trucks.

    Differential Lube..

There are people who run a "wet axle" setup with no inner hub seals. The diff grease and other lubricants all mix together and lube the whole thing. From what I've read, as long as you use the same stuff everywhere (90wt) it doesn't matter and may even have benefits.

What is the Disco 1's wheelbase?

Keep in mind that, while the dampener will stop any wobble you have, it's only covering up the symptom of something else. My guess is that you have bad bushings on at least your panhard rod.

Anything to look out for in a 1999 range?

Look for leaks, and rust (tailgate). Look for service and repair receipts. Look for evidence that the oil/transmission/diff fluids were all changed with some regularity. Look for evidence that the wheel bearings were lubed and/or repacked. Make sure the airbags work.

What do I need to know when buying a Land Rover?

Well, I assume you're talking about a "series" truck, since you mention a soft top and SWB. I'm in the US so I'm not sure what those cost over in the UK or what the availability is. If it leaks, you know it has fluid in it. Look for rust on the bulkhead and frame -- frames seem to rot on the...

About to buy a floor jack

Speaking of which, sort of, I got my floor jack and hi-lift at a farm supply store. Ag supply stores seem to have all manner of cool heavy-duty equipment at a reasonable price compared to, say, the dealer, or an auto parts store like NAPA. Just make sure that you get GOOD, heavy-duty jack...

Pro Comp Shocks for Disco 1's

What are you planning to do with the truck? What are road conditions like where you live? ProComps are cheaper, but with aftermarket parts you often get what you pay for. Look through some of the Jeep boards at the opinions of ProComps; lots of people hate them and talk about them blowing...

    Dead Disco :(

Fuel pump. Why are you leaving your engine running while filling up?

    What are these for?

Yes. The way they're set up in the picture, branches will slide up the limb risers and right into the top of the snorkel and the lower part of the roof rack basket.
