Hi:

Apologies if this has been answered, but I can't find it. I have just acquired a '02 Disco II and have several questions on the Lug Nuts for the wheels and spare wheel (that's on the back). Currently, it has 18" wheels/tires.

1) What is the correct size wrench to use? I want to buy a socket so I can hand torque.
a) Size of lug nuts on the running wheels?
b) Size of lug nuts on the spare wheel?

2) On the Lug Nuts on the running wheels, they seem to have a metal cover over the nuts. Do you remove that (somehow) before removing the nuts or do you put the Lug nut wrench over it?

3) What is the proper torque?

4) If I put 16" wheels on, would I use different lug nuts?

5) Have I missed something else that I should know?

Thanks,

Usually the best size socket is a 1 1/16th 6 point, that along with a 18" or 24" breaker bar and a 3" extension and you'll be set.
As for the torque, 105 foot pound on the wheels, and just tight on the carrier.
Don't mix up the lugs and use any of the spare lugs, with the dimple on them, on your wheels, or visa versa, you'll mess up the threads.
Always but a touch of lube on all the studs so you don't twist a thread.
The lug nut caps can be damaged if you use the wrong size socket, but you can buy replaces.
All 16" and 18" Rover wheels use the same socket.
