We have isolated a problem with our 2005 LR3 to the Inertia switch...The hazards flash, doors unlock, fuel pump quits, etc....but we cant seem to find out where the darn thing is....Can someone help me out? I have heard everything from passenger footwell to firewall by the oil filler cap...I have looked everywhere....Someone please let me know where it is and what it looks like...I think its a small box with two wires running from it from what I have researched....from what I hear, it is a very simple fix, but the car is not driveable right now because of the flashing lights...

Thanks.

its in crash mode. what I suspect is that the system is losing a few signals on the can bus network and causing a system crash. need to have it checked by the dealer so they can spot the source of the problem.

you didnt wash the engine down with water while it wasnt running did you?

Sandman,

Thanks for your reply....no, we havent washed the engine down, but we did have a problem a few months ago with water leaking from dome light area, and down along passenger side...in my research on this topic, on another board, someone had a similar leak that shorted out a wire under glove compartment....they said it took the dealer three weeks to find it....

So there is no manual inertia switch that can be reset like on the D2s??? We called dealer and they said it will cost 124 to diagnose, but that the amount will be credited to repair. What I would like to know is how expensive this could get if we are talking about CAN bus??? Is that an expensive part????

We have tried unhooking battery(pos) for several hours(overnight), but the moment you hook it back up, the hazards come back on, and the doors start clicking again....This happens with key out, or with key in position 0, and 1....when you go to position 2 or to start, the car functions normally.....to keep the hazards from going off, I found that if I disconnect one of the headlamp fuses under the hood....it stops....the car will start, and drive normally, but the driver side headlamp does not work and the right side turn signals dont work....everything else is fine....for now, i told wife to leave for work once its daylight, and to only take lefts!!! lol....i think we may have to take it in to dealer(we are out of warranty) so im hoping we dont get ripped off.... Any other help would be appreciated, but thanks for your reply.

No, we have not washed engine bay out....the car runs fine when its on, its just when its off and key is out or key is in position 0 or 1....in 2 or 3 its fine.....I have done a quick fix and removed one of the headlamp, flasher fuses that keeps the hazards and doors from clicking (unlocking)....i dont know why, but that fuse seems to control both the doors and locks....only thing it affects when car is running is that the driver's side headlamp (xeon) does not work and the right side signal lights....told wife to only take lefts!!! lol.

Any idea on how much this will cost if it is the CAN bus???? The car is out of warranty. Im dreading the bill from the dealer....Anyone in Houston area, or that knows a good independent shop or dealer in Austin or Houston???? Im open to any ideas....we even thought about trading it in!!! Wife loves the car despite problems though.

Thanks for your reply and help.

judging from some of the info you gave me, I suspect an issue with the fuse box behind the passenger side glove box.

was the floor wet when you bought it.

cause I suspect the drains on the sunroof were clogged or the leak in a pillar panel on the passenger side causing a leak onto the fuse box.

Thank you,
Is there anything I can do myself or does it need to be done at the dealer.

I have 2005 LR3 and have just started having the exact same fault as you describe. Did you ever find a solution to the problem?

While I cant say I had the exact issue you describe, I have had water leakage. To make a very long story short - I had what I consider to be a minor leak on the front passengers side, and occasionally a slight drip from the ambiance light (center overhead). The leak was diagnosed and repaired by the dealer but my problems were not over - every once in a while my radio would stop producing sound. Strange, because I'd replace the fuse & it would work for a week, a month, a few days, you just didn't know when it would pop again. I took it back to the dealer a few times, they couldn't find the problem & didn't want to start throwing parts at it. I was getting tired of driving around with earphones in - the HSE has a pretty nice stereo - so I decided to start digging around in the wiring & see what I could find.

First off, there are factory splices in the fusebox area that are pretty poor. Just taped over with blue electrical tape- wow. Turns out, the issue had nothing to do with the splices though, it was the water that had sat in the passengers side sill channel that had caused a wire to short (and melt!). After a TON of work by a great tech in Scottsdale the problem has ceased. He apparently had to replace wiring from the fuse box all the way back behind the back seats.

It's imperative that water does not enter the vehicle! Sounds like common sense, I know. But it's MUCH more critical on this vehicle!!
