I am getting ready to put some 255/60/19 All terrains on my LR4 (One size larger sidewall) I know that size won't fit underneath the vehicle unless you let the air out of it. Can I run a 255/55/19 spare and if I need it it not mess with the traction control?

I'd be more worried about the diff.

It's an extra 1" of diameter.

Why not just buy 1 extra and do a 5 tire rotation? That's what a lot of the guys here do.

It's not really more money spent, as that 5th tire will also share the tread wear.

Just takes a few more minutes per tire rotation, not a big deal.

Just curious... what size is the donut that comes on the car? (I took mine off and it's currently under the LR3 I sold when i bought my LR4)

Isn't the oem spare a smaller tire than the 55?

I recently added 255/60/19 tires to my LR4. i was in the same predicament as you. I added a 2/55/60/19 spare tire in the OEM location. I can confirmi had to air it down to fit. I keep a portable air compressor (Smittybilt 2781) in my car anyway, so no big deal for me.

the 255/60/19 is an extra 9/16" OA diameter...not 1".
but i still wouldn't run a tire with that different of size, at risk of ruining the diff.

175/80/19. 30" OA diameter, which matches the OEM 255/55/19 diameter.

The 255/60/19 Toyos are a little over an inch bigger than the 255/55/19 Toyos.
Apologies. You're correct.
i only took into consideration the sidewall height difference at one side of the tire. Had to double it to get the total diameter difference.
