275 or 265 with GAP tool only

I can’t seem to find a clear answer anywhere on this very specific question.

I have. stock 2011 LR4 5.0.

I’m trying to decide between 265/65R18 and 275/65R18. I will be using BFG AT as the tire. Wheels are EVOCORSE DAKARZERO with 35 offset.

I have the GAP tool, and at least for right now, that’s all I’m using for a lift. It appears that the 265 can be run at stock height. If I go with the 275, can I lift my truck using the GAP tool 1.5-2” to accommodate the 275 without rubbing?

the 275/65 tires are going to rub regardless, either at stock ride height or under compression when you are off road. so you'll need to trim some plastic, and move the rear AC lines a little.

you can use the GAP tool and program some lift in (.75-1" should be all you need) so you dont have to worry about rubbing if you are just driving around on the street.

I just put on 275/55/20's BFG KO2s with zero rubbing on stock but with 2019 Discovery 20inch wheels(not sure on offset). I bought used with 90% life because I wanted to make sure the rubbing wouldn't be to bad but to my surprise I have not experienced any, BUT I know its at MAX and a new tire would be rubbing!

275/55/20: 31.9 diameter and 10.8 width (Of course all tires are not exactly the "Calculator size" so maybe KO2s are a little smaller compared to other 275/55/20's?). I was actually more worried about the width more than the height and those 275/65/18's really do push the dia and width for our LR4s.

Compared to your options

265/65/18: 31.6 Dia and 10.4 width
275/65/18: 32.1 Dia and 10.8 width

So yes you should be fine with the 275's with some lift from the GAP Tool.

Have you considered the 255/70/18's OR 265/70/18's? IF you plan to lift it regardless I might look at one of these two sizes instead of the 275/65's just because they will be a little smaller width but still the height your looking for. Again I believe its the width that really can cause issues not so much Dia....to a point of course.

I run 275/70R18's, and had to trim the plastic and the frame "horns" that protrude from the rear of the wheel wells. No rubbing with about 1.5" of lift. These are about 33" diameter and 11" width.

I’d say it depends on the tires you run. BFG vs Toyo vs Cooper will all have slight variations even though they’re the same size.

BFG tend to run small, Toyo & Cooper more close to actual spec.

You may get away with BFG but switch to Toyo later and have slight rubbing.

Balto, could you share a pic or two of your setup? I don’t know if I’ve seen anyone on here get lucky enough to have no rubbing on KO2’s without some mod.

Which of these would cause trouble when you drop to bump stops, though? When I changed a damaged front tyre recently, the front of the car went limp. That was with stock tyres, yet already looking a tad close. Looking at it made my wonder how things would work out with my 265/65/18 KO2s - would the tyres not actually get squashed by the wheel well or something.
