Probably even more then 3x, since you have a higher load on the engine at any given rpm.
But really? In a good day on the trails you might go 10 miles and burn through half a tank of gas... tell me you didn't buy an LR4 for it's great fuel economy!

No, but the point of the question is: it seems like you wouldn't be able to drive even 30 miles in this thing using low gear. At slow speeds in regular drive while accelerating (and not fast, just going with flow from a light) I get like 4 MPG. If it's worse in Low, can you even go anywhere off road without running out of gas?

this isn't a mileage question, it's a range question. how many cans of gas do you carry when off-roading?

I haven't been anywhere that I have needed to carry extra gas (though I have several jerry cans), but I know for certain trips with our LR group they recommend anywhere between 2-5 depending on the distance (5 gallon cans).

How long is the 5 can trip?
I think it depends, but the most recent one I saw posted was when the group went to Death Valley and then there is a trip to Baja, Mexico planned - both I saw them say it was recommended to use 3-5, with 5 being most necessary for the Mexico trip.

FYI - The origin is the SF Bay area.

It doesn't quite relate like that. Keep in mind, you're under a load, at say 2k rpm at 15 mph in first gear in high range, in low range you can be in 4th gear by then.

It all depends on what you're doing off road, if you are climbing rocks, and steep hills, or mud and sand where you are powering through, you'll use a lot more gas per mile then if you're on dirt roads where you can safely go 15mph.

I see; thanks for all of the answers, by the way.

you want to talk motorcycles, I'm your guy, but you are MY guy for 4WD, because I obviously know little.

Not a problem. Might take you up on that, just got a garage with a perfect spot for something with 2 wheels.

On a 7:30pm-1:30am trail ride, I used 1/2 a tank. Next morning I made a gas run. Luckily there is a station just outside of the park.
