Ok, just wanted to close the thread because I hate when I’m trying to find solutions on other threads and they lead to a dead end.
I ended up deciding on taking it into the dealer because:
1. I didn’t want to spend a week doing the work myself near the holidays, which I know would have turned into 2 weeks with unforeseen setbacks and figuring things out.
2. I wanted the warranty of the work from the dealership.
So, I took the rover to the dealer and they did something I’ve never heard of a dealer doing…ever. They initially gave me the estimate as a 8 hour job with a grand total of $2200. They called me a day later and said the tech finished it in 5 so after tax the new adjusted total was $1650.
To end the story, it was a crankshaft seal and not the vacuum pump.
