My 1997 Defender 90 doesn't want to start in the morning, I have to use starting fluid but then it starts up just fine the rest of the day w/o starting fluid. I've been told to check my starter injector and I've also been told that the 97 D90 doesn't have a starter injector, from what I can see it doesn't. I just replaced the fuel pump. Everything else works fine, car has around 60,000 mi on it. Anybody have any suggestions?

My fuel pressure is good too, as I have already been told to check that.

The engine also idles unusually high, around 1500 to 2000 RPM.

Petrol or Diesel?

What maintenance has been done? Just a shot in the dark, but I would say your injectors are leaking off at night causing no fuel pressure.

No maintenance, I just got the car and have no knowledge of maintenance history. Considering the source of this car I would have doubts that routine maintenance was done. I've done the routine oil change and new filters. I also don't have a manual for this car nor an experienced Rover specialist nearby.

I would start with a full tune up, plugs, wires, air filter, hoses, all fluids.

K guess I'll have to order some new wires and plugs, I still have the original Lucas wires on so being Lucas those are probably overdue for a change. Any other suggestions? The Air, Oil and Gasoline filter are all new. The truck ran great for a couple months until this problem popped up so I'm thinking it's going to be something a little deeper.

Does my 97 D90 have a on board diagnostic module where I could see if there are any codes displayed? If so where might it be? I've checked in the passenger footwell and didn't see one there nor under the passenger seat in the cubby box.

Your 97 will be OBDII so it should have the connection for the scanner under the dash below the steering wheel.

If you don't have a check engine light you don't have codes.

I would start with plugs and wires at the very least.
