97 Disco in the shop

Rough idle started yesterday afternoon, service engine light on, took it directly to the shop. They couldn't look at until today, still haven't heard the official prognosis. It seems to to miss firing on one cylinder. I looked under the hood, the plug wires look fairly new (I just bought thistruck two weeks ago with 105,000 miles on it). The wire boots looked like they may be melting to the exhaust manifold, which seems like it would short the spark. I looked up new wires last night, seems to be a plethora of options out there. Anyone have recomendations on the best brand?

Magnacore is my recommendation for wires
Cheap Champion for plugs

If you just bought it I would recommend doing a complete tune up.

Thanks Joey. I was planning on doing a complete tune-up, including plugs and wires, but haven't had the time. I'm also thinking about changing the timing chain just as a preventative measure. Any other suggestions?

Timing chain may be a bit much, but it will not hurt. I have 140+K on my 97 and all is still pretty much stock (okay with the exception of the ECU, intake, exhaust)

Shop just called, bad plug wire connection. Most of the bill is the scope charge.

Agree to soem extent about the timing chain maybe excessive. The problem with the chain is that there is rarely any warning before it goes, and if it goes it will cause much damage. New chain kit from Atlantic British is somewhere under $200, seems like a fairly inexpensive insurance policy.
