How long did it overheat? Did is shutdown due to being overheated? Or did you shut it down when you noticed it getting hot?

Way too many factors at play to say what the issue is, best case you may have to reset the system... worse case you warped the heads or cracked the block.

Still waiting on your reply.
Have you pulled the plugs to check for water and how far did you drive while it was starting to get hot?

got it to start (stupid inertia switch popped) now it just keeps over heating, there is a coolant leak some where but i can't find it (oil is not milky so i know it's not getting into the oil), also i can see small bubbles coming out of where the valve cover gasket is, i plan on replacing that tomorrow. as far as the over heating it's weird, the water pump will suck down coolant and once i fill the reservoir the engine will cool back down but over fill the reservoir, like i said weird.

also the engine will be operating at normal temp and the heater won't be putting out hot air, i know that the thermo is open cause the line between the thermo and radiator is hot and i can squeeze it and feel fluid flow. i don't know where the heater core falls in the flow pattern but could i have a large air bubble in the system, and if so how do i purge it?

You have a blown head gasket so don't think replacing the v/c gasket will cure this problem.
You don't sound very mechanical and as such I would suggest you let a shop look at it and don't drive it in the mean time or you'll have a toasted engine.
