I just bought a 98 discovery and I think the tranny might be messed up. When it goes from 1st to 2nd it has a little boomerang and it is only in 1st for a second then 2nd it shifts good into 3rd but in high gear is seems to lug around in 3rd and then shift down into 4th like its bogged down. Is this just how these trucks are or do I have a problem? Will a full fluid and filter change fix this? Anyone had a similar issue?

115000, just had plugs and wires. boomerang= bad way of saying it. it kinda shifts hard into 2nd and 4th kinda just pops in about 75. also it has no radio, a radio shop said it would cost like 400 dollars because you cant get a harness for the unfactory deck, sounds like bs to me. thanks for replying, I dont know a thing about land rovers.

fluid and filter in Transmission wouldn't hurt... but it could be U-joints as well.

I would also run some fuel injector cleaner threw it... can't hurt.

Radio, I have heard of harness' being picked up before at crutchfield IIRC.

ok, I got a radio in it. I got some injector cleaner in it. I looked at the rpm's when shifting from 1st to 2nd and they go up just a little bit (slipping). I think spending the $150 on fluid and filter at this point might not help if the damage has already been done. I guess I will have to drive it until it goes out. Do Diso's have tranny issue's ? Any clue how much it cost to rebuild one of these trans., and can anybody do it? Thanks for the help Joey, maybe some other enlightened land rover people will give you a break one day.

Cost of rebuild will depend on where you take it... most places will do it for under $1500 I would think... my 92 Buick only cost me $700 to rebuild, but parts are easier to get.

You can always add some Lucas Transmission fix.
