Hi,

I am new to the forum. My Discovery has 90000 miles on it. The engine block was replaced at 50000. Yesterday, the service engine light began to flash and then will stay on, then flash. It is driving roughly, skipping. My husband changed all the plugs. He is having trouble seeing how to do the wires. Any ideas? He is military and is leaving soon. I don't want to take it to the dealer unless I have to. I have had NOTHING but problems with them. I found a manual online, but am unsure what kind of engine I have. ANY help would be great. I have to keep driving it and am afraid I am going to get stranded.

Thanks!

Trecy,
Godd chance that if the plugwires have not been changed yet that they are causing the problem, althiugh there are other things that could be doing it alos.
Is the check engine light staying on, if so go by any of the larger auto parts stores, like Kragan, and have them read your fault codes with their scanner. Make sure you write down the code numbers, not necessarily what they migt describe, and get back to us so we can better try and help.
As for changing the wires, they are hard to do because of where they are located, that being behind the intake manifold down low next to the fire wall. If you husband is like me with large hands, he won't be able to reach them, if you have long arms and small hands and don't mind getting a little dirty you will save yourself as much as a couple hundred dollars. If interested, get back to me and I can walk you through it and also suggest what wires to use as replacements as you don't really want to use factory wires again.
Take care and get back to us.

Hi,

He took it to Autozone. He can't remember the code. He said they told him cylinder 8 misfire. I can ask again. He couldn't get to it but I am MORE than willing to try. I LOVE my Discovery and pride myself in doing what I can. I can't find out how to do it online. I am going to order a manual but need to get this done before it would get here. My husband said if it wasn't working better he was taking it to the dealer on Wed. I would love for you to tell me how to do it. I am working on my Ph D but have trouble with common things. No comment there. PLEASE be specific.
Thanks so much!
