Alarm goes off/ Engine will not start. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hello,
my name is Desmond and I am new to this forum. I am not car savvy at all really, but I know an odd problem when I see one.

I own a 2002 Discovery that responds to my fob when I unlock the car, and will even allow me to turn the key salightly once I put the key in the ignition. However, as soon as I try to turn the key all of the way the engine "hiccups" and then the alarm goes off.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is? My truck has been stagnent now for over a week because of this problem, and I can't take it to a dealership, well, because it won't start.

PLEASE HELP!

Try locking and unlocking the drivers door 4 times with the key and see if that resets the alarm.

didn't work. the engine isn't turning over, so it has to be electric, right? This is really strange. any other suggestions?

Possible dead battery? check the voltage and also watch the clock, if the clock resets to 1:00, then you have a dead battery.
