Hey guys,

I'm having a little issue with my sunroof. It's making a very annoying sound. Imagine tapping your fingernail on a piece of glass, but the sound is like 10 times louder. It happens when I'm driving, when it's open (vent-mode), and even when the car shakes when I close my door. Sound like something is loose. I feel like I'm driving with a woodpecker on my roof! :argh:

Has anyone else had this problem? When I took it to service, they resealed the edges. It was working fine....until I opened it.

I may have had a similiar problem, and it took 4 trips to the dealer to get it corrected. You might have them check to see if the glass panel itself is loose inside the metal frame that lines the glass. That ultimately ended up being my problem, but as I said it took 4 maddening trips to the dealer, and each time the proudly announced they had fixed it only to have the noise reappear within just miles of the dealership.

At one point, they told me they had replaced the entire sunroof mechanism, but it still rattled and frankly I could not understand what else could possibly make the sound. Turns out, they re-used the glass panel. On the fourth attempt, someone finally made the connection, and it's now 100% fixed. Thank God, as I was about to just sell it for whatever I could get for it (massive depreciation seems to be the rule on LR3's).

It was quite intermittent and hard to duplicate:albertein, but boy when it did rattle it was extremely loud. It would do it closed, open, and I've even heard it just shutting the door, so it sounds very similar to the problem I had.

That just might be my sunroof's problem, because when I apply pressure to the glass, it stops rattling. Something is definitely loose up there. Thanks for the input...I'll make sure to let the dealer know.

I had the same problem and it was soooo annoying! the dealer finally replaced everything with the sunroof (tracks and all)! I noticed that my sunroof tracks had many many cracks and every loaner I have had had was the same way (even brought it to the attention of the dealer. check your sunroof track rails when open to see if they have cracks.

Might be as simple as dirt on the sunroof gasket. Every car I have owned seems to develop this problem. Clean the gasket with rubbing alcohol then apply lube all around. I use a teflon based bike lube that comes in a tube.

I have had that issue before as well, and with some cleaning, and a little vaseline on the track, it went away. Also, I think a lot of it seems to be associated with the little track that the screen slides in. Check that as well....
