Auction values?

I am looking to join the LR3 club. How can I find out what they are going for at auction? I would like to use those values as a negotiation tool with dealers.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

You'd have to get access to the black book and those are very difficult to get and get information on. Are you trying to get the dealership to sell you a used LR at black book? Or a percentage above? Edmunds used prices are pretty damn low, so you can use that as a mid-point between that asking price and black book and see what the dealership offers.

Mainly just to be able to negotiate. Trying to find out how much the dealers here in Southern California are marking them up, to determine how much I can try to get them to move on price.

For example, one dealer here had an 06 HSE with 48000 miles on it for $28K another dealer had on 08HSE with 45000 miles on it for $34K. Seems like a large disparity.

Find someone with access to Manheim Auto Auction. They can pull up the latest SoCal auction prices and show you. Know anyone who works at a dealership? They can do it.

You can expect that the asking price at the dealer will be 20 to 25% markup from auction price. You can typically negotiate the price downward, up to 5 to 10% from asking price, depending on the dealership. Hope this helps.

With pre-owned LR3s, you can't always be as selective as when buying new. If you find the right vehicle for you, I'd say 'go for it' and don't worry too much about a few $ one way or the other.
