I acquired a 97 Discovery that someone did a butcher job on the radio. They installed it not using the Sub woofer or the left side speakers and rendering all the steering controls useless. In essence it plays in mono, and not well at that. Is a wiring diagram available anywhere for the entire OEM audio system? and any suggestions on where to get a set of the original wiring harness recepticles that plug int the back of the OEM radio? Has anyone hooked up n aftermarket system and still have all the steering area controls working? (if so how did you do it?)

Wiring harness could be had from Will Tillery @ roverguy.com aftermarket with steering controls.. I remember seeing a company that makes this and I may even have posted it in here a few years ago, but don't recall off the top of my head who it was.

95% fixed

I was able to acquire the OEM radio and CD changer and when I got into the dash I found that the original butcher was nice enough to leave the connector ends (although clipped) tucked up in the dash. I was able to rewire (on those tiny little remainders) and get sound from 3 of the 4 speaker sets and get the steering/dash controls back working. with some more effort I'll get the 4th speaker working.

The odd thing is I have superb FM reception, cd changer and great weather band, I have no AM reception. Does anyone have any idea why? Also, the two wires for Main and Sub, one wire has a white tag with a red tape band around the wire the other has a yellow tag on it. Which one goes to which connector? It seems the same swapping them around, but I just want to connect them properly and leave it at that. Any thoughts?

All working fine now. The wires swap easily between "main" and "sub" and now I have AM reception and superior FM reception. Next step is to do the upgrade I found to add a ipod jack. I just need to decide whether to do the jack to the CD changer or the jack to the head unit. I think I'll also do a permant wiring connection for the new GPS unit.
