Not many people mention the Avon Tires. I want to replace my Goodyears now and do not want to spend all that much. The Avon tires seem pretty good and are not that expensive.

Any reasons for or against?

Not a bad choice if you don't want to upsize and you do want to stick with
an all season tire.

A buddy of mine has a Disco with Avons on it. He loves them. I guess they're considered to be a pretty good tire in other parts of the world, but nobody knows about them in the states.

what I want to do is move up to a bigger size with these. Say to 265's for a slightly larger patch, but can this create a problem with side wall flex?

Well, had the Avon's put on today. 265/60/18 is the sixe I went with. A little more size to them, and the ride is pretty good, much better than the Goodyears. Little stiffer response, but bumps are more evident (shich is fine, as I like bumps !! :))..

Still have th minor wobble in the car though, and with the tires, allignment, and balancing now ruled out, it is coming to the point we me and the Rover may just take a trip off of the Sagamore Bridge.

I am almost leaning towards transmision now, as I can feel it more evident in 2nd, third, and fourth gear, and also becasue I have no clue what else it could be and am losing my friggin mind.

One dealer I talked to said it may be the DSC, but turning that off does nothing.

Do Land Rovers float?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Oh, Installed the Expedition Roof Rack today as well. Not fun installing, but looks pretty good. I may take the wind barrier off, cause I think it makes it look too Exterra-esque.

Wobble or "wander" mine wanders when it encounters those ruts the heavy trucks make in the highway, like on I95 in CT. Is your problem better now with the new tires or is it the same?

Not a wander, but a wobble. The rut-grab has gone away with the new tires, but the wobble is still there. It is felt through the car and mostly in the gas peddle. If that makes any sense. For craps and giggles, I put it in neutral today on the highway to see if it would go away (kind of trying to rule out the transmission) and it did not. So I guess that is good and bad, as it may rule out the transmission.

With tires, allignment, transmission, and balance ruled out, and the dealers in the area absolutely useless, I am not sure what else it could be.

Some folks on the DISCO3,UK forum said it may be a geometric balance/allignment issue. Not sure what that is, or if it may just be a tire allignment/balance.

On an odd chance, check in the rear bumper to make sure your occillating dampers are okay. Two big heavy rubber blocks tucked up under the rear bumper to control harmonic vibrations or something like that. They should swing freely back and forth a few inches.

might it be a broken sway bar bracket? I had the same issue on an old wrangler?

thanks for the replies, I am going to look at both tomorrow. I was wondering what those two things in the back were when I was checking my receiver hook up. Also will look into the sway bar, but not sure if that would cause such a rythmic wobble like the one I am getting.

Funny, I had the sway bar snap at the brackets on my Wrangler as well. Put me into a death wobble that I will not soon forget. I think I remember wetting myself and breaking three knuckles on my driving hand from it !! :)

Thanks again folks.

GO PATS !
