I have a lease on an A4 that expires in 30 days. I was planning on replacing it with a new A4 but found out the manual won't be available until July. So my wife and I decided that we would get a used LR3. I have been looking for a 2006 with 25,000-35,000 miles. I recently found an 06 HSE with 24,000 miles for 25,000. We went to test drive it and loved it, planned on buying it until we ran a CARFAX on it. We found out that it failed its last emissions inspection in 08 by the previous owners and hasn't passed since. I still have the opportunity to purchase this truck but am concerned as to why a 24,000 mile vehicle would fail an emissions inspection. I also heard thru a LR dealer that this vehicle was declined warranty service from LR. I feel like this is a deal that is too good to pass up, but don't want to get screwed with a vehicle that might be plagued with problems. What would you do?

Well, I can tell you one thing. If it was declined warranty service than I would probably stay clear. As much as I love my LR3, I can't imagine maintaining it without the factory warranty. You should investigate as to why it was declined, if it was something small that the owners were being picky about, you can always find a different dealer that would be willing to work with you; but if it was something major with a valid reason to decline warranty work, then I'd be concerned.

Sounds like too many negatives - failed SMOG and dealer declining warranty - stay away

Plenty more out there - with no issues - Craigslist is your friend.

Just looked at my local listing, and you have 3 or 4 to choose from at that price

I agree; there are a lot of LR3s out there to be had. I'd also be trying to squeeze the pocket book enough to get an '07.

"So my wife and I decided that we would get a used LR3."
WHAT!!!!!!!!!
The most you let her pick out is the color.
This is ONE thing we can not let go of. Don't get me wrong she made a good desicion this time. But CHOOSING A VEHICLE SITTING IN THE GARAGE OR DRIVEWAY is worth sleeping in the dog house for as long as you have the vehicle.
As men we have been neutered in every imaginable way. You are making another mans life worse (they talk).
I just relized you typed "my wife and I". sorry for the rant unless it was her idea :)
I am all fired up so I will post this anyway.

That's funny stuff - I actually feel the same way, but lucked into a wife that really doesn't care what she drives - so long as it isn't a minivan....

Granted, she wasn't sure about the LR3, thinking it might be a bit too big (she was driving a combo of a Freelander and a Mini Cooper prior, so it's reasonable that the LR3 seems huge to her), but she now loves the sheer versatily, and the winter capabilities.

My wife loves the LR3 (which I bought before I met her)....I just don't know that she'd have been able to stomach the cost of it, even though I'd saved up for that down payment for years....
