Changing The Gear Shift Knob

Does anyone know how to change the gear shifter knob on a Disco 1?

I'm assuming it's a manual? If so, GENTLY pull up the leather skirt that surrounds the knob (Gear lever gaiter). It's held down by 4 or so plastic clips which can easily break. Once you have done this, the knob just screws off, however, it could be stubborn.

Remove the rectangular cover in the center of the shifter knob. Just take a small screwdriver and pry at the seam between the cover and the rest of the shifter. When you get that off, you will see a small clip on top of the shift lever itself. That is the way that the shifter button lifts the shift rod to make it so you can shift. Take the clip off and then pull the shift knob straight up and off. Watch the small plastic wedge that is part of the mechanism that lifts the shift rod.
