Hello rover family and happy holidays to all. I have an 06 LR3 which has sat in the garage for about two months now. Started it to warm up and noticed a squeal noise, which went away when the engine warmed. Next day started it and there was the noise. Sprayed some belt dressing and it quieted and eventually went away. Two days later, it came back, again only during cold start. Any thoughts on whether its a pulley (power steering?) Or a belt issue? Thanks

When was the last time you had your belts inspected and adjusted? May well be time to replace as the squeal is a sign of them stretching out and slipping.

belts

Happy holidays rover family. Thanks again for the advice on the belts. Looked in the engine and realized my 06 LR3 has two belts, a fan belt and the serpentine belt behind that. Question is does the fan have to be removed in order to access these or will the belts slip on over the fan? Thanks

squeal

Thanks. Does the 06 LR3 have a rubber timing belt or a meal chain? Could that be making the noise? nks

I don't think that's true for timing. The serpentine belt is rubber but I believe the timing chain is metal.

As houm correctly points out, the serpentine belt is rubber, while the timing chains are metal.
