JP, if your HSE has bluetooth and set up correctly, then like the X5, all you have to do IS step into the car. But I guess we can't say that about the satellite radio......not yet anyway.

It's an early 2005 w/out bluetooth, but it has lumbar supports!

That pretty screen on the dash should control the phone, satellite radio and (dare I say) an MP3 device, as well. At least there's an Aux jack on the car.
This is what Range Rover is for. :) Well, not MP3 "control" support...

Unlike Range Rover, LR3 and Range Rover Sport was designed to have the Touchscreen completely optional... so the bulk of the vehicle was designed to operate without it. I'm personally not so hot on the "integrate everything into one UI" thing, like BMW iDrive...

But yes, it would have been nice to see a little "added value" beyond Navigation and 4x4 Info. (Range Rover Sport does have rear DVD controls on there, if equipped with factory RSE.)

So wait, do later 2005 LR3s come with bluetooth installed? My dealer was going to install the phone integration kit for me, but then realized that it cannot be done on my 2005 SE. Should I drop the search and just use a headset in a 2005 SE?

It was orderable at the very end of '05, so it's rare. You can get the "dealer install" PTI kit installed, but it's not as functional. It must be mentioned earlier in this thread; either that, or search. It'll be far more expensive than the factory option, too, due to labor.

My dealer installed the add-on PTI on my 2005 SE. The Bluetooth works as Grommet said-full Bluetooth integration- phone mutes radio-plays through radio speakers and radio volume controls phone volume-voice recognition dialing-steering wheel controls operable, but no integration with the radio dialpad or address book. I like it and prefer the integration the LR kit does offer over an aftermarket brand. Works great with my MotorolaV3 Razr.

Roverine,
I think I'd rather have the add-on PTI than a 3rd party. My dealer offered to put it in before I take delivery, so cost isn't an issue from my standpoint, but then he called back to say that his parts people said they couldn't replace the ??steering wheel?? to include the paddle controls? Do you know if your paddle controls look as they do in teh 2006 SE? That's what I saw in the showroom this past weekend that made me ask for it.

Is it possible that my dealer, they are new only open for about 3 months, doesn't have staff that know how to install certain add ons? He's getting me a DVD from a shop down the street that has been doing installs for another sister LR dealer for years.

Should I push for the OEM PTI?

Roverine & Grommet, I am using BT Sony with my 06 HSE and works just like you say except the voice recognition part. I cant seem to get it to work. I press the steering wheel switch like the manual says but nothing happens. No chime, no message. Is there a setup that I have to go thru to turn it on? Thanks in advance for your help.

JoelD, the "buttons" are installed as part of the PTI kit. It's not a new steering wheel. It will look just like the "factory" PTI from that point of view.

xcursion, time to break out the owner's guide. :) You use the normal "voice" button, not the PTI phone buttons. Say "phone help." If your goal is to program multiple voice tags, it's probably easier to use the Navigation screen UI to program them, since you'll be able to "press" the number into the system instead of speaking it:

From the main menu, do Settings --> Voice Settings --> Voice Name Add

Yes, I would push for the OEM PTI since it offers better integration with the LR3 than an aftermarket kit. As Grommet says- they added the phone paddles on the right side of the steering wheel as part of the kit. Upon pressing the green paddle, the system listens for me to say "phone"-repeats "phone" to me and I say "dial number" and the system responds "number please." No special setup was required beyond what my dealer did to install it.
