Just another example of you never know what you get. My neighbor has a BMW X5. He's had it about 2 years now and has had nothing but problems with it. I'd say at least once every 2 months I come home and he's got a loaner because the X5 is in the shop for another problem. Not the same problem more than once, however, so he can't do much with the lemon law (he checked).

So, even with a vehicle, which should be reliable you can still get a lemon. It all goes back to service, however. You can't garantee you'll get a good truck but you can (hopefully) buy it from a dealer who will take care of you should you NOT get a good truck.

Thank you all for your input. As I mentioned before, it REALLY helps to hear some real world experiences.

Racingdc9,
Is your dealer looking into the chime and paint issues while they have it in the shop for the suspension fault? I'm curious how responsive your dealer was to the paint issue as my previous Dodge had a smiliar problem that the dealer blamed on me. My truck only had 2,500 miles on it at the time. I went to another dealer, not the one I purchased from, and they fixed the issue and said that it was a known problem.

Michael99b,
Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about what is going on with your LR3. That is exactally what I fear. I honestly do not care if my truck has a problem. But there is nothing more upsetting then taking your truck in for the same problem over and over.

GadgetRick,
Luckly someone from this forum bought from the same dealership I am looking at, Hunt Valley Rover in Maryland. He seems very happy with the dealer and is sending more detailed information about his experiences.

Again, thank you all for your replies. I have another month or so till I make the plunge and you all have given me a lot to think over. GoofyMD summed up my situation pretty well:

"what it boiled down to for me is do I want the reliable option which is boring or do I want a little risk to dirve somthing that gets me excited? "

Thanks again!

Granger: yeah they are looking at all 3 problems. They better not come back to me with it's my fault, i'll take it to a autobody specialist and prove them wrong, hehe. So far we're on our 3rd day, and they haven't let us know what's going on. I called and left a message with my service advisor already.

I got a 05 Durango as a loaner and it's alot rougher ride then the LR3, and stupid driver side sun visor, when folded down, is smack right in front of my face, and that's with the seat already all the way lowered and i'm only 5'8", design flaw.

Every state's Lemon Laws are written differently, of course. But in my state if a vehicle is 'out of service' for 30 days or more accumulative time due to warranty repairs it may qualify as a 'lemon'. The repairs wouldn't have had to be for the same things.

Granger - - thought I'd give you another update. Now my LR3 has been in the shop for over 2 weeks total accumulative time to try to fix the nav system. The controller unit under the seat and computer screen have been replaced (as of today). Still not working right. - - The new front fender and front left wheel fairing should arrive tomorrow and will be replaced (old one had peeling paint). - - I have to leave town and (fingers crossed) hope everything will be fixed when I get back next week. - - - So far, I'm staying mellow and philosophical about it all. What the heck, I have a loaner and the guys at my local shop seem to be doing all they can to make things right. - - - Would I do it all over again if I knew what I know now ? At this point the answer is still Yes. The Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470 didn't have enough power (I tow) and were 'nice' but boring. - - - If it isn't fixed next week (which means 3 weeks working on the nav system) - - I may have a different answer to that question !

Yes, all states are different with their Lemon Laws. Unfortunately, NJ is written so that it has to be the SAME issue. So my neighbor hasn't been able to do anything about it.

On the good side, their dealer has taken care of them and they seem to have gotten the worst of the problems worked out.
